I have never really seen much of a difference in the taste of organic vs non organic food. Where I do notice a difference is in the price.

I want a new class of food, maybe not quite organic, but also not totally unnatural and jacked up on chemicals and fertilizers. Maybe we can find a happy medium that isnt 3x the price like organic is today.

Haha the second studies are done one side is latching on to the results and one side says the tests were flawed in some way. It seems like that happens regardless of the results. We may never really know. ;)

No harm from conventional foods? Are you kidding me? Look at how many kids are maturing faster than ever before. Look at the kids who have more asthma, health deficiency, and common problems such as ADD. Now, we can't contribute this all to the food, but, I believe its part of the problem. We do not have a safe food supply grown with pesticides and other chemicals. Fooey on the research...I'm sticking with Organic.

I like the concept of organic food, it just make sense to grow our food naturally and avoid pesticide and other nasty thing that makes the food grow faster but damages the environment and our health with residues it leaves in the food but I tend to be very sceptical about research for or against an argument whether organic food or not. Interested parties have this habit of skewing research findings to support their argument.

That is indeed amazing, that a rehashing of previous research can be labeled as ground breaking!?!

I have not read the report yet, but as you suggested, it really has zero value if it ignores the pesticide residue question.

At this moment, more people eat conventionally-grown food because they are cheaper. Unfortunately, this lower cost comes from herbicides, pesticides and even fertilizer that has been synthesized from hydrocarbons (i.e. oil). As more and more oil fields grow old, and newer oil rigs have to be built farther and farther offshore and drill deeper into the earth, oil will grow much more expensive. There will always be enough for critical applications (e.g. military, plastics, medical), but things like burning oil for energy and using oil to make fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides will quickly lessen. Sooner or later, organically-grown food will once again become cheaper than conventionally-grown food.

This is likely to happen sooner rather than later. In 2008, the price of oil went up to $140/barrel, helping to contribute to the recession. In 2009, right before governments throughout the world were proclaiming the end of the recession, oil prices had exceeded $60. Once the major economies all announced the end of their recessions, oil prices hit $80. It won't be long until industries and governments have to decide how best to use the more expensive oil, and conventional agricultural practices will probably take a major hit within a decade or two.

Those with their own gardens should at least start learning how to grow their own vegetables organically. It's certainly better than just growing grass for a lawn. If you don't live in the city, there is no need to rely 100% on commercially-grown organic produce. As Sally said, organically-grown food at least does not have residual herbicide and pesticide. This health reason, along with the economic reason, makes growing your own organic vegetables and food a lot more compelling than in the past.

Of course I am no scientist Anders but as you say, logic just suggests food without chemicals simply must be better for you and as this is what they left out of their study it seems, to a lay person, they have deliberately distorted the study.

When I first heard this in the news I thought logic says organic food must be better for you in some ways (as you pointed out) and therefore I will continue to eat organic food.

Now after reading this it seems there are certain things this study didn't take into consideration that would, in my opinion, prove that organic food is better for you.

Hi David

May I ask whether it is the taste difference with organic food or the worries over chemicals that would stop you switching back?
