Fly tipping in rural areas

Doesn’t it make you really angry to see rubbish dumped in rural lanes and fields.

Today I drove from our local village to our farm and when I crossed the bridge beside the river there was a pile of old childrens toys and unwanted items from a garage.

Why do people do this? Someone has had to put all of that into their vehicle and then drive it for 30 miles out to the countryside to dump it …… well that is what the locals would have you believe.

However it is obvious that someone locally has fly tipped this rubbish in a rural area. Why? One call to the local council would have it removed with little difficulty.

From the items there it is obvious that someone has cleared out their garage and simply wanted rid of the rubbish they no longer wanted.

It makes me so furious that people would be lucky enough to live in such a beautiful area and then throw their rubbish at the side of the road, in a place they know fine well the council will not see it or pick it up until I call them to let them know about it.

We have a local tip where all of the items can easily and conveniently be disposed of and this person had them in the car anyway so why not drive them to the tip? If the tip is closed then leave them outside the gates rather than drive them to a country lane.

When I worked in the waste industry in Staffordshire we had what was called an amnesty twice a year. We would leaflet an area with a timetable for when we would collect unwanted household items. On the morning of the collections residents could simply place anything they no longer wanted on the pavement and it would be collected that day. This largely reduced fly tipping from residential properties.

It seems no matter what rural councils arrange for waste collection there will always be lazy thoughtless people that will take their rubbish for a ride in the country. Shame on you
